FABULOUS Antique Cruet Set
FABULOUS Antique Cruet Set
WOW WOW WOW! I am so excited about this cruet set! I have never had one with this many pieces, plus they are all intact!!!! PLUS the tops of four of these bottles have the original marks for sterling silver. The detail in the cruet stand alone is outstanding. Each little pocket features a pierced rail, and the center has a falcon engraved in the silverplate. Each bottle fits perfectly into its little compartment. An ornate handle allows you to carry this set to the table and buffet. A cruet set is a must-have for any collector and this one is fabulous.
Cruet frames have a rich history, with the earliest examples dating back to the early 1700s, such as the “Warwick” cruet made by Anthony Nelme in 1715.
As the 18th century progressed, cruet frames evolved to hold as many as eight bottles. These elaborate sets included bottles for oil, vinegar, soy sauce, ketchup, tarragon vinegar, mustard, and salt and pepper shakers. Each bottle often had a silver label to identify its contents, adding both practicality and charm to the dining experience.
An 8-bottle cruet frame was a testament to the craftsmanship and culinary tastes of the period. The intricate frames, often with elegant handles, were centerpieces on the dining table, showcasing the owner's sophistication and taste for exotic and local flavors.
Exploring these antique pieces gives us a glimpse into the past, making them not only beautiful artifacts but also conversation starters and educational treasures. Very good antique condition with just a few insignificant chips in the bottles. 9" x 10"
