Serving Set including Citrus Peeler, Grape Sheers, and Asparagus Server
Serving Set including Citrus Peeler, Grape Sheers, and Asparagus Server
Here we have an antique orange peeler. Orange peelers date back to the 19th century, a time when citrus fruits became more widely available and popular in Europe and America. These tools were designed to make peeling oranges easier and more elegant. The design often included a sharp blade for scoring the peel and a pointed end for lifting it away from the fruit. It is 6.5" tall and silver-plated, made in New York. These have a small amount of rust on the blade that you can see in photos.
Second, we have a pair of German grape shears. Grape shears emerged in the late 19th century, coinciding with the tradition of serving fruit at the end of a meal in fine dining. These specialized scissors were designed to snip grape clusters from their stems without damaging the delicate fruit, allowing for an elegant presentation. Often made from high-quality materials and sometimes intricately decorated, grape shears became a staple of affluent households. The German grape shears you see here reflect this tradition, featuring silver-plated handles and a robust design, measuring 6" long. There is a little rust on the blades I have not tried to remove.
The last piece in this grouping is a really beautiful and intricately pierced pair of asparagus tongs. Asparagus tongs were designed to serve asparagus spears neatly, preventing them from slipping or breaking. This pair, lightly monogrammed on the top of the handle and are 9.5" long, is a perfect example of this tradition. There is some wear to the silver plating, but they remain both beautiful and useful.
These are being sold as a set of 3. Price is for all 3.
