A must-have for any silver collector! The Victorian pickle castor by Rogers and Co., made between 1874 and 1898, is a true marvel of craftsmanship and elegance from that era. It stands tall at 12.75 inches, with a gleaming triple-plated sterling finish. The glass jar is intricately cut and topped with a silver lid featuring a lovely sunrise finial. Sitting on a caddy with a handle shaped like a bowl of fruit, it includes hooks for the original claw tongs. Where the handle meets the base fish, two fish adorn the sides. The base is beautifully detailed with a teardrop and leaf design, supported by four feet that resemble gathered fabric. In Victorian times, pickle castors like this weren't just for show—they were essential for serving and preserving pickled delicacies, reflecting a taste for both fine dining and decorative arts. They were symbols of status and refinement, making them prized pieces that showcased the era's dedication to craftsmanship and aesthetics.
