Mid to Late 1800's British Butter Knife engraved "Grandmother"
Mid to Late 1800's British Butter Knife engraved "Grandmother"
This lovely antique English butter knife is approximately 150 years and at some point it was engraved with a loving inscription, "Grandmother". It is identified as J. Yates and Sons on the back as well as a hard to read monogram. In 1858 John Yates advertised as makers of "Crown and Britannia Metal manufacturer, established in 1780, at 37-38 Coleshill Street, Birmingham". An 1870 catalog describes the firm as "Crown & Britannia Metal, Spoons & Ladles, soap & dressing, case boxes, Railway Whistles, Dog calls and a large variety of other articles".
What a darling gift to yourself if you are a grandmother or to someone else who is a grandmother! 8" long.
