Victorian Quadroupleplate Putti Candlesticks

Here is a fabulous pair of antique putti candlesticks or incense holders made by the esteemed Wilcox Silver Plate Co., a celebrated name in Victorian silverwork. These pieces capture the whimsy and richness of Victorian design, from the sweet cherubs with wings and quivers of arrows on their backs to the delicate bluebells, seashell motifs, and the ornate flora-and-fauna edging along the base. Each rests on four ball feet and is topped with a scalloped rim and a blooming finial that may have originally been designed to hold incense. A candle can be used with putty for stability. Standing 11.25" tall and marked "Quadruple Plate"—a hallmark of Victorian-era craftsmanship indicating four layers of silver plating—they are in excellent antique condition save for some expected surface tarnish, as shown in the photos.
